Dr. Joyce was born and raised in Tempe, AZ. His family later moved to Idaho where they lived on a ranch. He liked knowing he was helping others when volunteering in the emergency room in Boise, Idaho. While earning his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, he discerned through a 54 day Rosary Novena that practicing medicine is God’s will for him to be of service to people. Dr. Joyce graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine. He entered an OB/GYN residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and transitioned to Family Medicine residency through Waukesha Family Practice in Waukesha, WI.

Dr. Joyce began his career by opening Family Medical Center in Ivanhoe, MN then worked as a family medicine physician including obstetrics for 33 years in Springfield, MN, Sleepy Eye, MN and Glenwood, MN. He and his wife Kathleen have nine living children and seven grandchildren so far. Throughout his years as a family physician, his calling has remained the same: to be a humble servant of all.

In order to maintain excellent care of mothers and babies in rural communities, Dr. Joyce became an advisory faculty member in Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics through the American Academy of Family Practice and has provided many years of education to members of OB medical teams from rural community hospitals. He was blessed with the opportunity to help two pregnancy resource centers begin serving southern Minnesota, in Mankato and New Ulm.

Dr. Robin Goldsmith invited Dr. Joyce to join the Saint Gianna Clinic in April of 2022 after many years of work together in the Catholic Medical Association which is dedicated to the principle of “Inspiring Physicians to imitate Jesus Christ.” Guilds were developed in the diocese of New Ulm, and Saint Cloud in Minnesota, and the diocese of Rapid City in South Dakota through Dr. Joyce’s efforts.

Singing in Choir and serving as Acolyte and Lector are Dr. Joyce’s other avenues of service. Walking, triking, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, sailing, and camping are all things the Joyce’s enjoy on their dates.
